Will: James Green (1807)

Proved: 5 October 1807

In the name of God Amen, I James Green of Prince William County and State of Virginia, being now sick and weak in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be to the Almighty God who gave them & hoping he will receive my soul at the last day and now concerning my worldly goods & after all my just debts are paid.

Imprimus my Will and wish is for my loving wife Frances Green to hold and enjoy all my property of every description for & during her natural life or Widowhood; and if a division should take place in her life my desire is that the Land be equally divided into three parts agreeable to quantity and quality and my wife Frances Green to draw for a Choice in obtaining her third.

Also my desire is that as my oldest son George Green has already had to the amount of Forty dollars in property for her my said wife Frances Green to furnish each and very of the other children with the same amount of Forty Dollars as they may com of age, marry, or see cause to leave her that is if they leave her in a becoming manner & provided it may at all times answer her convenience but is not to be restricted on in case it does not.

Also, my desire is that my three youngest daughters be educated as much as may be thought necessary by my Executors or Administrators. My desire also is that after the marriage or decease of my wife Frances Green that my property be distributed among all my children agreeable to the intention of the Law in such cases and as to what money which may on a settlement appear to be due from me from my Brother Thomas Green my desire is that it may be put to the best advantage by my Executors as the law may direct. 

My Executors whom I appoint and wish to serve in administering justice in every case above mentioned is my Brother Thomas Green and Jesse Green and lastly I recommend my body to the Grave there to be buried in decent burial agreeable to the direction of my friends & Executors. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 8th Jany in the year of our Lord Anno Domini 1807.

This last will and testament of James Green dec'd was presented to the Court by Thomas Green one of the Exors therein named who made oath thereto according to Law and the said Will being proved by the oaths of Bain Posey and Philip Warder Junr. the same is ordered to be recorded and the said Exor having performed what is usual in such cases certificate is granted him fo obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

Will: Charles Davis (1811)

In the name of God Amen. The Twelfth day of November one thousand eight hundred and eleven I Charles Davis of the State of Virginia Farmer, being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God therefor, calling unto mind the mortality of  my body, knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent christian burial at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the almighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

Imprimis. I devise and bequeath to my beloved child Barbara Davis one feather bed and furniture, one sorrel horse colt, one red heifer yearling with a white face to she and her heirs to have and to hold forever. Secondly and lastly, I give and bequeath to my b[e]loved wife Elizabeth Davis all the remainder of my estate that I possess in this world to have and to hold as long as she lives and at her death decease to be equally divided amongst my three children Sarah Rison, Edah Woodyard and Barbara Davis to have and to hold they and their heirs forever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first above written.

At a Court Continued and held for Prince Wm. County Dec. 3 1811.

This last will and Testament of Charles Davis decd was presented to the Court by Elizabeth Davis his widow and being proved by the oaths of Jesse Warder and John Ratcliff was ordered to be recorded and on motion of the said Elizabeth administration with the will annexed of the said Davis is granted her she having taken the oath prescribed by law and given security according to law.

I Elizabeth Green of Prince William County Virginia do ordain, constitute, and appoint this my last Will and Testament.

In the first place my desire is that all my debts (which are few and small) be paid then in the second place I give, and bequeath to my dearly beloved daughter Frances E. Green all my property both real, and personal, consisting of one tract of land of between one & two hundred acres which joins P. Warder Doct Thos. Ewell decd. & Thompson Green decd. One negro woman Amy & child, one negro boy, Walt, and one small boy Ferdinand, and also all the little stock and furniture, and money which may be due me, & P. Warder Ext.

In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 5th July 1830.

At a Court held for Prince William County the 6th day of September 1830.  This last will and testament of Elizabeth Green decd. was presented to the Court and being proved by the oaths of Philip Warder and Jesse Green, is ordered to be recorded, and Philip Warder the Executor therein named came into Court and made oath to the same according to law, and having taken the oath of an Extr. and performed what is usual in such cases Certificate is granted for him to obtain a probate thereof in due form.

In the name of God Amen I RICHARD STONNEL of Prince William County Planter being weak in body but having my perfect reason and right of sence and understanding do hereby make this my last will and testament.  I promis to give and be queath unto my sun in law WILLIAM LOYD one feather bed & furniture when he needs it.  I give and bequeath unto my be loved wife SALLY STONEL all the rest of my estate as long as she may live after all my just debts is paid and at her death for what is left to be divided amongst all my children and my wifes two sons:  JOHN CORNWELL & GEORGE CORNWELL.  This instrument of righting made the seventeenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and five.

This last will and testament of RICHARD STONNEL decd was presented to the Court and being proved by the oaths of WILLIAM BAWSELL, ALLEN BLAND and JESSE WARDER was ordered to be recorded.  And administration with the will annexed of the estate of RICHARD STONNELL decd is granted to SARAH STONNELL she having taken the oath prescribed by law and executed and acknowledged a bond with security according to law.

Friend of Friends Friday: Will: Thomas Green (1825)

08 Nov 1824; proved 03 Jan 1825

In the name of God Amen I THOMAS GREEN being sick of body but of perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make ordain constitute & appoint this my last will and testament and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God & my body to the earth to be buried in decent burial & as touching my earthly goods, I dispose of in the following manner.  In the first place I give and bequeath to my beloved son THOMPSON GREEN negroes DICK, NAT & SANDY.  In the second place my will & desire is that Mr. NATHAN HAISLIP whom I appoint as my Executor shall retain in his hands of my estate so much as shall be a sufficient support for my daughter BETSY GREEN during her life and then to return to my son & daughter THOMPSON & POLLY GREEN and lastly I give and bequeath to my son THOMPSON GREEN & my daughter POLLY GREEN the whole of the residue of property of every discription both real & personal to be equally divided between them.  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 8th November 1824.

BE IT KNOWN unto all men with these presents that I Walter Warder of Prince William County state of Virginia for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty Five pounds good and lawful money of sd. State to me in hand paid by William Munday of sd. County & state at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents wherewith I confess myself to be fully satisfyed, contented and paid, have bargained and sold and by these presents do fully clearly and absolutely bargain and sell unto the said William Munday a Negro girl named Sarah about fifteen years of age to have and to hold the said girl to the said William Munday his heirs Executors Administrators or assigns to his and their own propper uses and behoofs for ever. A I the said Walter Warder, my Heirs Executors Administrators and any of us hold the said girl to the said William Munday his heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns against all people shall and will warrant, acquit and for ever defend by these presents.

KNOW all men by these presents that I Alexander Lithgow for and in consideration of five shillings to me in hand paid by Mather Harrison have bargained & sold all my rights unto him to two negroes by name of Charles & Milly which were the possession of Mrs. Harrison widow of Mather given from under my hand & seal this 21st Feby. 1801.

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I John Tayloe of Mount Airy in the County of Richmond and State of Virginia have bargained and by these presents do bargain & sell for value received to Thomas Blackburn of the County of Prince William & state afd. [aforesaid] in Trust for the use of Jane Charlotte Blackburn & for no other use or purpose whatsoever a Mulatto girl named Nancy and I do warrant & defend the sd. Girl Nancy to said Blackburn in Trust as aforesaid against all persons whatever. Given under my hand and seal this 12th day of February 1801.

In the name of God Amen I William Bauzel of Prince William County Planter being weak in body but having my perfect reason and right of sences & understanding do hereby make my last will and testament.  Ipromis, I give and bequeath unto my well be Loved wife Mary Bauzel all my estate possessions and property as long as she may live except one feather bed and furniture that I leave unto my sun Richard Bauzel and after my wife Mary Bauzel decease for all the rest of my property to be equally devided amongst all my children except my sun George and at his decease for his part to be returned unto the rest of my children, January the 3rd day One Thousand Eight Hundred & Seven.  I leave my wife Mary Bauzel & my sun William Bauzel my Executors.

And at a Court cont and held for said County April 7th 1807 Mary Boswell Executrix named in the last will and testament of William Bauzel dec'd came into Court and renounced the burthen of the Execution thereof and William Boswell Executor named in the said Will came unto Court and made thereto according to Law and having taken the Oath of an Executor and entered into bond with Security according to the Law certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

03 Nov 1823; proved 02 Feb 1824

No all persons that I JESSE WARDER of the County of Prince William & State of Virginia doath this third day of November eighteen hundred & 23 make this my last will and testament whereas, I give to my son WILLIAM one bed & furniture thereto & one cow & calf.  I allso give to my sun WALTER WARDER one bed & furniture & one cow & calf.  I also give to my daughter ELIZABETH one bed and furniture and one cow and calf, and I allso give my daughter ELIZABETH forty dollars in cash.  I give and bequeath unto my afectionate wife MILFOARD WARDER all the balance of my stock househoalds and kitchen furniture and crop on hand and allso my negroes JAMES, JACK and MARIAH all of which she is to have and to hoald for her oan support during her natural life, that is after all my just debts are paid and after my wifes death, my desire is that the property may be divided between my five children, to my daughter MARY STONEL, JNO. WARDER, and his wife, WILLIAM WARDER, WALTER WARDER and ELIZABETH WARDER.  At the death of my sun JOHN and his wife the property shall go to their children.  I allso give to my sun JOHN WARDERs children two beds and furniture two tables to chairs one lume one spining wheal and cords and one iron pot.  Such said utensils are now in the possession of my sun JOHN for the benefit of his children.  This being my last will and testament I now appoint my suninlaw RICHARD STONAL and my sun WALTER WARDER as my soal executors as witness whereof I have hereunto afixed my mark as the day and date above menchioned.

STONNEL one of the Executors named in the last will and testament of JESSE WARDER decd. came into court and having made oath to the same and taken the oath of an Exor. and performed what is usual in such cases, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
