Merchant and lumberman of Bethel, who recently announced that he is a candidate for renomination to the office which he now holds, that of supervisor of Occoquan District, to which he was elected four years ago.

A news story concerning Mr. Russell's candidacy was in last week's Journal and his political card is also appearing currently.

Pretty Ruth Sharrett, of Manassas, Va., represents Prince William county as "Princess Prince William" in the third annual Piedmont Dairy festival at Manassas.

Friday's Faces from the Past: Lois Chapin (approx 1904)

This family photo is a lost heirloom discovered by a good Samaritan in an antique store in Ashland, Oregon that found its way "home" to my cousin Gentsia.  

It shows Lois Chapin, the daughter of Alyce (Keys) and Paul Chapin.  (Alyce was the daughter of Henry Armistead and Sarah Frances (Lynn) Keys of Prince William County.)

Lois was born 19 July 1902 and married Solomon L. Van Meter, Jr.  She died 22 August 1963 and is buried along with her husband in Lexington, Kentucky.

Friday's Faces from the Past: Genevieve and Alyce Keys Chapin

This family photo is a lost heirloom discovered by a good Samaritan in an antique store in Ashland, Oregon that found its way "home" to my cousin Gentsia.  Dated 1901, it shows Alyce Keys Chapin with her daughter, Genevieve.

Alyce was the daughter of Henry Armistead and Sarah Frances (Lynn) Keys of Prince William County.  She married Paul Chapin, son of Gurden and Julia Paul Chapin, on 7 October 1896 in Washington, DC.

Friday's Faces from the Past: Woodbine Baptist Church

As Woodbine Church prepares to celebrate its 140th Anniversary, it seemed appropriate to post a photo of its congregation from the late 1930's.  The group is standing at the front door of the original 1875 one-room church building.

Many thanks to Miss Jane Abel, a long-time member of Woodbine's congregation (she's the little gal with the bow in the picture) for sharing her photo!

Miss Jane tried her best to remember the names of everyone in the picture but there are a few she was unable to identify.  Do you recognize any of the faces in this photo?

OFFICERS OF COUNTY CLUB COUNCIL, 1933

Officers for the year were elected at the meeting of the club council  held on January 28.  Plans were outlined by the group for county-wide club activities.  The council is working to have all clubs in the standard list by the end of the club year.

Friday's Faces from the Past: Keys-Chapin Family (?)

Below is another of the photographic treasures found in a California antique store that I mentioned in my January 10, 2015 post about Lost Heirlooms.  Like many lost heirlooms, this photo had nothing written on the back to identify the subjects or the place where the photo was taken.  This photo was included with a cache of prints identified as belonging to the Keys-Chapin family, so for the moment I am assuming that this grouping represents members of that family.

Friday's Faces From the Past: Cora Bell Beavers

Below is a photo found among the chancery papers of the 1918 PWCo divorce case between Cora E. Beavers v. Samuel T. Beavers.  Cora was accompanied by her younger brother, Robert, and neighbor, Willie Keys, on a trip to the big city -- Washington, DC -- and had a souvenir photo-postcard made of the event.  This postcard was later introduced by Samuel Beavers in a counterclaim that Cora was unfaithful to him and having an affair with Willie, which she denied.  The Court found in Cora's favor, granting the divorce.
