I Jane Carney do hereby make my last Will & Testament in manner & form following (that is to say)

First. I give & bequeath to my son John Carney thirty dollars as his full portion of my estate.

Secondly, I give to my Granddaughter Jane Hardin daughter of Byram Hardin one horse bridle & saddle worth fifty dollars & fifty dollars in money.

Thirdly, I give to my Granddaughter Delia Carney daughter of my son Benjamin one horse bridle & saddle worth fifty dollars & fifty dollars in money.

Fourthly, I give to my son Benjamin Carney one fifth of the residue of my estate after deducting ___ dollars the amount of an account he is due me.

Fifthly, I give to my son William Carney one fifth of my Estate after taking out the three legacies just mentioned taking from his portion ____ dollars he is due me.

Sixthly, I give to my daughter Elizabeth Murthey one fifth of my estate after taking out the three legacies just mentioned taking from her portion forty five dollars she is due me.

Seventhly, I give to my son Joshua one fifth of my Estate after the three legacies just mentioned be pd, he accounting for the thirty five dollars he is due me.

Eighthly, I give to my daughter Tamer Hardin one fifth of my estate after the three legacies [j]ust mentioned be paid.

Lastly, I do hereby constitute & appoint Byram Hardin the husband of my daughter Tamer Executor of this my last will & testament hereby revoking all other or former Wills or testaments by me heretofore made.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 25th day of March 1830.

At a Court of Quarterly Sessions held for Prince William County the 2d. day of August 1830. 

This last will and testament of Jane Carney decd was presented to the court by Byram Harding the Execr. therein named and being proved by the oaths of Thomas Nelson and Richd. W. Weedon is ordered to be recorded, and the said Byram Harding made oath to the same according to law and having taken the oath of an Exor. .and performed what is usual in such cases certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

Know all men by thee presents that I William Cole of the State of Carolina, have appointed and by these presents do appoint, constitute and ordain my friend Richard Cole to be my true and lawful attorney -- in the suits brought against Joshua Carney and others to carry on the fame to fettle or compromise to sell or to do any thing therein as to him may seem good ratifying and confirming every act of his as fully and freely as if I myself were personally present.

August 29, 1779.

DESERTED, three of the recruits from Prince William county, to wit: ANDREW MURPHEY, an Irishman, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, well made, black hair, a large black beard, had on a round hat, brown cloth sailors jacket, check shirt, and a pair of osnabrug trowslers. JAMES MILLER, an Englishman, 5 feet 8 inches high, of a swarthy complexion, short brown hair, curls before, well made, had on a white coarie cloth jacket, cotton shirt, and osnabrug trowsers. ROBERT WOODERFIELD, an Englishman, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, short light hair, well made, much given to liquor, lost his foreteeth, had on an old white shirt slit on the shoulders, a pair of bed ticking trowsers, and a pair of old shoes. Any person apprehending the above deserters, shall receive 150 dollars, or 50 dollars for each upon delivery to

THIS INDENTURE made and entered into this Twenty third Day of November 1801 between JOHN LYNN & BENSON LYNN his son of the County of Prince William and State of Virginia of the one part and HEDGMAN MURPHY of the county and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said JOHN & BENSON LYNN for and in consideration of the sum of Sixteen pounds Virginia currency to us in hand paid by said HEDGMAN MURPHY the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and of the same do acquitt and Exonerate himself his Executors Admrs. Heirs & Assigns have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell Alien and transfer unto the said HEDGMAN MURPHY and his heirs forever all that parcel piece or part of land which was given by WILLIAM LYNN to THORNTON LYNN & BENSON LYNN sons of the aforementioned JOHN LYNN the s[ai]d JOHN LYNN having purchased the part belonging to THORNTON LYNN which land hereby bargained and sold is situate in Prince William County lying on the fork of Butlers & Blands Roads and is bounded as followeth (Vizt.) Beginning at the Conjunction of the aforesaid Roads and Run[n]ing with the former No. 55 [degrees] Wt. 25 po[les] to the line of WILLIAM RIDLEY then with his line No. 42 [degrees] Et. 22 po[les] to the line of RHEUBEN CALVERT then leaving Ridley and Running with Calvert’s line So. 49 [degrees] Et. 7 po[les] to Blands Road then leaving said Calvert’s line and Run[n]ing with said Road So. 25 poles to the Beginning containing two Acres and twelve poles together with all appurtenances of every kind and nature in any wise appertaining unto the aforesaid piece, part or parcel of land. To have and to hold the aforesaid piece, part or parcell of land and its appurtenances unto the s[ai]d HEDGMAN MURPHY and his heirs forever for the only proper use and hehoof of him the s[ai]d HEDGMAN MURPHY his heirs and assigns forever and the said JOHN LYNN and BENSON LYNN for themselves their heirs Exrs. and Admnrs. forever warrant and defend by there presents unto the said HEDGMAN MURPHY his heirs and assigns the aforesaid piece part , and parcel of land and its appurtenances against all persons claiming under them. This said deed was acknowledged by BENSON LYNN and proved as to JOHN LYNN by WM. PEARSON & ordered to be Recorded.

Thirty Dollars Reward.

Ranaway from the subscriber living on Cedar Run, Prince William county, Virginia, on the 18th inst. a mulatto fellow named JESSE.  He frequently attaches Murphy to his name -- he is about 5 feet 4 inches high; about 31 or 32 years of age -- has been brought up a house servant, and is a good waiter and ostler; he also understands the farming business -- he is very dressy, and a cunning, artful fellow, and will endeavor to pass as a free man.  Part of his dress is a country cloth jacket and breeches, a blue and brown cloth coat, a castar hat, laced shoes, with country stockings.

I will give the above reward with all reasonable charges to any person who will bring him home, or lodge him in a gaol so that I get him again, leaving information with Mr. Jas. Brundige, Baltimore, or to Mr. Geo. Sweeny, Washington City.
