INQUISITION INDENTED and taken this fourteenth day of April Anno Domini 1808 at the Court House of Prince William County Between Philip D. Dawe Escheater for the Commonwealth of Virginia in and for the County aforesaid of the one part and George Williams, Samuel Davis, Wm. Keys, Benjamin Cole, Samuel Ashton, Noah Maddox, Benjamin Carney, James Holliday, George Cockrell, John Lowe, Thos. Jacob, Joseph Gilbert, John Watson, Wm. Cocke, Wm. Farrow and Beverly R. Wagener, good and lawful men and freeholders of the same County impannelled by the Sheriff of the same County and duly sworn, Witnesseth that the same good and lawful men so impannelled and sworn as aforesaid do find that Francis Rice late of the Borough of Norfolk dies siezed in fee simple of a tract of land containing one hundred and forty acres more or less lying near Dumfries in Prince Wm. County commonly called Grays that by his will duly proved and recorded in the Borough Court of Norfolk he devised said land to his wife Elizabeth Rice during her life and after her death to any children of the said Elizabeth that she might have after his the said Francis's death and if she should die without having such issue then to his the said Rice's surviving brothers and sisters, that said Elizabeth died sometime in the year 1804 -- without having any issue and that the brothers and sisters of the said Francis Rice appear to us to be aliens, It also does not appear to the jurors and Escheater aforesaid that the wife of the said Rice was a Citizen or that she hath relatives citizens of any of the United States of America, Therefore forasmuch as the said Francis Rice died without heir citizen of this Commonwealth or of the United States of America capable of holding the said before mentioned tract of land, that the same Escheated to the Commonwealth of Virginia, and to the same Commonwealth doth of right belong. We accordingly do escheat the same, Witness the hands and seals of the Escheator and of the jurors aforesaid the day and year above written.

N.B. The within mentd. land was purchased by William Savage of David Bland Deed recorded in the County Court of Prince Wm. in the year 1779, Savage devised his Estate to Edward Rice his will recorded in the General Court in 1789 Edwd. Rice devised hsi EState to Francis Rice within named his will recorded in the District Court held at Suffolk in 1801. Francis Rice devised it as writhin.

Sunday's Obituary: Elizabeth Foster / Thomas Watson

DIED, at her residence in Prince William Co., Va., on the 21st inst., Mrs. Elizabeth Foster, aged about 83 years, after a long and most painful illness, which she bore with much submission to the will of Divine Providence.  She was at the time of her death, and had been for 50 years a member of the Baptist Church. She died in the hope of entering into that rest which remaineth to the people of God. She was much respected by her friends, and her memory will be embalmed in the hearts of her surviving children.

On Monday, the 15th inst., in Stafford County, Va., Robert Carroll Brent, in the 35th year of his age. Mr. Brent was formerly an officer in the Army of the United States, and was highly respected for his military acquirements, and much beloved for his amiable and manly character.

In Prince William County Virginia, on Sunday the 21st, Mr. Thomas Watson, a native of England.

MANASSAS, Va., Oct. 23 - Mr. William Payne and Miss Bertie Carter were married tonight at the Baptist Church.  The pastor, Rev. Mr. Trainham, officiated.  The groom is the son of Mr. Hugh Payne and the bride the eldest daughter of Mr. Shirley Carter, both of lower Prince William.

LEESBURG, Va., May 27 - Miss Maggie Carter, daughter of Mr. A. J. Carter, of Prince William county, was married to Mr. Edward P. Watson, of Watson, this county, on Tuesday at the residence of the bride's father, at Thoroughfare, Prince William county.  The bride was handsomely gowned.  Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Watson left for an extended trip to Northern cities.  They will reside in Watson.

In the name of god amen I STROTHER SUTTLE of Prince William County and State of Virginia being in a low state of body tho of a sound mind and memory thanks be given to almighty god for the same but calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life do make this my last will and testament in maner and form following that is to say I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty god my maker and my body to the grave to be decently buryed by my Exors. And as for such worldly goods and estate as the Lord has been pleased to bestow on me (after my just debts is paid) and give divise and bequeath in manner and form following.

Item I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM SUTTLE one Negro man slave named NACE one negro man slave named JACK the latter to be free if he is the longest liver and behaves himself well as a slave.

Item I give and bequeath to my grandson HENRY HAMPTON SUTTLE two Negro girls to wit SIBBY and ALLEY and one mare colt named Sophie.

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter ANN RENO one Negro girl named DINIAH and after her death to my grandson WILLIAM RENO.

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter MARY WATSON one horse named Wistar.

The balance of my estate whether real or personal I give to my beloved wife during her life or widowhood only that SAMUEL WATSON and his family is to live with her and take care of the estate so long as she liveth and after her death the said Watson to possess all my write and title to the plantation and land whereon I now live.  My will and meaning is that after the death of my beloved wife ELIZABETH SUTTLE the whole of my estate left in her hands during her life (except the land divised to Saml. Watson) be equally divided between my three children  to wit WILLIAM SUTTLE, ANN RENO and MARY WATSON.  My meaning is that none of the before mentioned property shall be liable to any execution for debt that is or may be contracted by any of my children and lastly I hereby nominate and appoint my son WILLIAM SUTTLE sole exc. Or this my last will and testament.  Given under my hand and seal this 22^nd of August in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety two.

At a court held for Prince William County the 3^rd day of December 1792.  This last will and testament of Strother Suttle deceased was presented to the Court and proved by the oaths of John Anderson and Lewis Bell and ordered to be recorded and at a court held for the said County the 7^th day of January 1793 David Renoe and Samuel Watson two of the Executors named in the said will made oath there to according to law and having performed what is usual in such cases certificate was granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

THREE ARE HELD IN MAN'S DEATH NEAR MANASSAS

Manassas, Va., Aug. 27 -- State and county officers early today found the beaten body of Richard Cornwell, about 60, at his home seven miles south of here.

Three persons later were arrested and charged with murder.  They were identified by Commonwealth's Attorney Stanley A. Owens as Richard Watson, Andrew Cornwell and Mrs. Mary Watson, all of Prince William County.

Owens said Cornwell apparently died of the effects of a beating he suffered yesterday during an altercation with the arrested trio.  The prosecutor said he had asked for an autopsy to determine the definite cause of Cornwell's death.

Owens said he was told by Harvey Cornwell, a brother of the dead man who lived in the house with him, that the victim had been struck during a fight with Watson, Andrew Cornwell and Mrs. Watson.

   DIED, at Buckland (Prince William Virginia) the seat of John Love, Esq. in the 16th year of his age Mr. Samuel L. Watson, son of Mr. James Watson of Washington City.
   The death of this young gentleman was by an unfortunate accident; and the suddenness of his fate adds fresh poignancy to the feelings which are excited in his friends by the recollection of his amiable heart and generous spirit, and of the talents whose early expansion was the joy and pride of his family.

   DIED. On Sunday afternoon the 24th inst. at the residence of Mr. Hugh Smith, Eliza G., daughter of Thomas Smith, of Buckland, Va.  She died at the age of 14 yeras, 7 months.  Her illness was short but severe, and the ters of her associates and school-mates around her grave showed their warm attachment to her.

   DIED. At Buckland, Prince William county, Virignia on Monday, 6th instnat, Mrs. Hannah Dean, for many years a resident of this plance, in the 76th year of her age.  Her friends and acquaintances are invited to attend her funeral from the upper end of Duke street, this afternoon, at half past three o'clock.

   DIED. At Buckland, Prince William county, on the 27th of January, Oscar M. Pattie, in the 46th year of his age.  He was a member of the Methodist Church, and died in the full hope of a glorious resurrection.  Honest, industrious and unobtrusive, he leaves behind him a good name.  He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his death.

   HAYDON.  Mrs. John Trais Haydon of Buckland, Prince William county, Va., passed away on Friday morning, October 28.
