Tombstone Tuesday: Jane (Milstead?) Cole

Tombstone Tuesday is an ongoing series inspired by Geneabloggers.com that I thought might be a nice addition to this blog.

Our Beloved
Mother
JANE COLE
Born
In Prince Wm. Co. Va.
March 18, 1818
Died
May 16, 1890
aged 74 years, 1 month, and 28 days

Jane Cole is my 3rd great-grandmother.  She married Lawrence Cole, a prominent landowner in Independent Hill, sometime before 1835.  I have yet to find the details of their marriage and am uncertain of her maiden name, but she is listed as "Jane Milstead" on the death record of her son, James Lawrence Cole, who died in Prince William County in 1914.

Jane (Milstead?) Cole is buried in the family cemetery beside her husband on Joplin Road in Independent Hill, VA.

  2. You're very welcome! There's more information on the PWCo Cole families on my (badly in need of updating) website: http://home.comcast.net/~colepwco/

  3. Who does everyone descend from? I descend from their daughter, Sarah Josephine Cole. I am in the process of looking for photos, etc. I am new to your blog, so not sure how to navigate it yet. Do you have any family photos posted here or elsewhere, and if you need any info, let me know.

  4. Hi Jenny,

I descend from Lawrence and Jane Cole's daughter, Edna Ann Cole, who married John Henry Lynn. Unfortunately, I have no photos of the family except for their son James Lawrence Cole, which can be found in a book about the 49th Virginia CSA. That photo and others of tombstones, as well as lineage, can be found on my Cole website (which is badly in need of updating, I know) at http://home.comcast.net/~colepwco/.

To navigate my blog, just look for the list of tags on the right column. I tag all of the surnames when I post an entry. Just click on a surname and it should take you right to the posts the tag relates to.

I'd love to have information on Sarah Josephine Cole. All I have is that S. Josephine Cole (18) d/o Lawrence/Jane m. Thomas A. Foster (26) of Spotsylvania s/o R.D./Elizabeth Feb. 14, 1967 (PWCo marriage records)
